Dear MEL
Topic Readers,
Inside Syria:
How life goes on in a besieged town
Though it is
a suburb of the capital of the country, the town is surrounded and blockaded by
the government forces. Eastern Ghouta in Syria has a population of 400,000 and
is a major defensive point for rebels. The town had been bombed by the
government and Russian aircraft until a truce was signed in May. It is still
blockaded and deliveries for daily necessities, including water, food and medical
supplies, are quite limited.
How do people
in such a disastrous condition live their daily lives? It seems that when there
are no other viable options, people manage to find ways to cope with
difficulties for survival, and also to have fun.
Enjoy reading
the text and seeing the photos to learn what the street life in a besieged town
