Dear MEL School’s Topic Readers,
The upside down tortoise enigma
Is the larger the better? Yes, when animals
try to compete for a mate. The larger a male tortoise is, the better the chance
to win a fight against his competitor. Actually, male tortoises actively
attempt to flip rivals onto their backs, which is a vulnerable to exposure,
starvation and predation. So, how tortoises right its position once it is
flipped over? Any advantages or disadvantages by the gender, size or shape of
the shell?
Enjoy reading what some researchers learned
tortoises’ righting ability from a flip-over position.
