Dear MEL Topic Readers,
France to ban smoking on beaches, parks and near
Smoking in enclosed public places, such as restaurants, schools,
workplaces, and public transport, is usually banned in most developed
countries. Also, some local municipalities ban smoking on beaches, in parks, and
around schoolyards. From July 1, France will ban smoking nationwide in all outdoor
areas where children frequently appear, including beaches, parks, public
gardens, outside schools, bus stops, and sports venues. The new rule affects about
23% of the French population who smoke regularly. Economically, smoking in
France is prohibitively expensive, costing over 10 euros per 20-cigarette pack.
Now, finding a place to smoke a cigarette is even more difficult. Gone are the
days when smokers enjoyed puffing whenever and wherever they wanted, like they
did in movies.
Read the article and learn how strict France is going to be about smoking.
