Topic Reading-Vol.3228-2/11/2021

Dear MEL Topic Readers,

Lillördag: Sweden's workers de-stress with 'Little Saturday'

If you work Monday through Friday, there are four evenings that you are not supposed to go so crazy just to make sure that you’ll be ready to work on the next day. This could be frustrating for those who work from home because of the pandemic and also those who live in high-latitude regions where nights are long and outside is cold in the winter. So, instead of waiting for Friday evening, what about making Wednesday evening special to reward yourself for the work you’ve done for the last three days and shape up for the next two days? In fact, this is a common practice among Swedish workers and families. It’s simple. Make Wednesday evening like little Saturday and have moderate fun, such as having drinks with friends or colleagues, a special dinner with the family, or dessert after dinner. In fact, experts say people tend to be more motivated with smaller goals within the week so that they can feel a sense of achievement and fulfillment, which in turn gives the reason for a little celebration.

Indeed, big events won’t happen so often, but little things can make all the difference.

Enjoy reading the article and think about how you want to spend your mid-week evenings.
