Saudi Arabia's king appoints women to Shura Council.
A new affirmative action is taking place to allocate 20% of the government council’s seats to women in this conservative Muslim kingdom in the Middle East. The council is not only allocating special seats but also building a special entrance and exit to those newly appointed female council members to its building in order to ensure segregation of male and female.
Another progressive move there is that women will be entitled to vote and stand local election in 2015 for the first time. These changes are regarded as a big step forward for the country where women are still not allowed to drive cars or travel without permission by a male guardian.
Enjoy reading and learning about very different customs of a conservative Islamic country from others.
