Dear MEL School’s
Topic Readers,
Opinion:
Nationalists should not be ignored after Scottish poll
The Scottish
referendum ended with a close result. 44.7 percent of the voters said “yes” for
independence and the rest said “no.” These figures represent 31% and 38% of the
Scotland population respectively. If you look at the numbers, almost 1.6
million out of 4.2 million eligible voters said “yes.”
If the referendum
had asked a slightly modest way to get more autonomy, the result would have
been quite different. Or if the last minute concession calls hadn’t been made
by the British government, voters might have opted differently.
What should the world
learn from this referendum?
Enjoy reading and
learning how sensitive nationalism is.
