What does “USS Enterprise” remind of? Cuban missile crisis, anti-nuclear
protests in Yokosuka or Star Trek? It’s the oldest and longest-served US navy
aircraft carrier which has just retired from its active service after a little
over 50 years on the sea.
Aircraft carriers have been playing significant roles since
Imperial Japanese Navy assaulted Pearl Harbor US Naval Base about seven decades
ago. Today, China is about to deploy its first carrier to show its naval force
and presence in Eastern Pacific, which in turn presses the U.S. to allocate
another carrier to the region.
One of the retired sailor commented that the name of USS
Enterprise sounds better than the ones of their politicians. How does it sound
to you?
Enjoy reading and learning about one of the biggest and most
remarkable navy vessels in history.
