Dear MEL Topic Readers,
Blood tests and ultrasounds: Korea is becoming one of the world's
global healthcare hubs
Medical tourism is booming in South Korea. Last year, about two million
foreign guests visited the country for medical checks, up over 70% from the
previous year, many of whom came from China, Japan, Taiwan, and the USA. The
low cost and high efficiency of medical check services seem to draw so many people
to South Korea. For example, a basic medical check package including a blood
test, chest X-ray, ultrasound, and endoscopy costs just $312, and a
comprehensive women’s health panel costs just over $500. Also, the check
completes within hours with minimal waiting time, during which the patients can use
their smartphones to entertain themselves. The facility is modern and clean, visitors
are treated not as patients but as guests, and translators and smartphones
ensure smooth, flawless communication. After a few weeks, the results are sent
by password-protected email with medical advice if necessary. South Korea is a
hot spot not only for K-pop, K-drama, and K-Beauty, but also for a customer-friendly,
prevention-focused healthcare system.
Read the article and learn how accommodating South Korea’s medical
tourism is.
