Dear MEL
Topic Readers,
Why
moving the US embassy to Jerusalem is so controversial
Usually,
foreign embassies are located in the capital of the host country. But there are
no foreign embassies in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. Instead, all of the 86
countries that have embassies in Israel have theirs in Tel Aviv. And the commitment
by the 45th president of the U.S. to relocate the embassy from Tel
Aviv to Jerusalem sparked a big political controversy around the world.
Why are
all foreign embassies to Israel in Tel Aviv, which is the financial and
high-tech center of the country but not the capital. And then why is the move
to relocate an embassy to the capital a problem?
Enjoy
reading and learning how complex Jerusalem is to the world.
