Competition heats up for new civil jobs
This past June, over 12 million new college graduates with bachelor’s, master’s,
or doctoral degrees were poured into the already overcrowded job market, where millions
of previously graduated students have been struggling to find jobs. There are
simply not so many job opportunities that require university degrees,
especially for those who have no previous work experience or particular
expertise. On November 30, the national civil service exam for central
government institutions was held. Of the 3.718 million qualified applicants, 2.83
million took the exams for 38,100 positions open for 2026, an average of 74
candidates per position. One extreme example is a police officer’s position in
Yunnan province, which attracted nearly 6,500 applicants. As AI becomes part of
