Dear MEL Topic Readers,
Volkswagen is exploring flying vehicles in China
China is the world’s biggest auto market, having sold over 25 million new cars last year. It is also the home for electric vehicles, auto-driving vehicles, and drones. Because of the powerful administration’s try-and-fix approaches, new technologies have been tested and tried more aggressively than other markets. Indeed, there are incomparable scale and speed merits for automakers in China. Also, there are abundant resources and investments for new and emerging technologies that have been fueling the development of new automotive technologies.
For Volkswagen, Germany’s automotive giant, it is the single largest for now and the most promising market for the future to develop, produce and sell automobiles with new technologies beyond electric vehicles and self-driving technology. They are now looking into flying vehicles, or vertical mobility and investigating feasibility and partners. Will China be the first country that grows the electric vertical and landing, or eVTOL, industry?
