Dear MEL Topic Readers,
Costco forced to shut first China store early
due to crowds
Chinese shoppers don’t seem to care about the
trade war against the US. Unlike the Singles Day Sales event that takes place
only one day a year, it was just an opening day for a US discount store in
Shanghai that is built to stay in business for some time. But eager shoppers
stormed in the store and fought to get the retailer’s popular items like roast
chicken and waited in long ques for hours only to pay for what they put into
their shopping carts. The store had to close the doors earlier because they
simply couldn’t handle the overwhelming number of shoppers. No wonder online retail
giants like Amazon and Alibaba are buying brick-and-mortar stores these days.
People just love to shop either online or onsite. Also, people love to shop or
use what they want. Most Americans use Chinese made smartphones and gadgets
while many Chinese enjoy drinking café latte and cappuccino at American branded
stores. Then why do governments care so much about the product origins? Will a
trade war make people happier?
Enjoy reading the article and watching the video
how furiously people could become when they try to get what they want.
