Hani Rice Terraces wins World Heritage
status.
While Japan is celebrating the inscription of
its proud Mt. Fuji on the prestigious World Heritage List, Chine is also awarded
a cultural landscape on the list, Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, on Saturday, June
22nd.
These graduated terrace steps are commonly
used for rice fields on hilly or mountainous terrain in South East Asia, which decrease
erosion and surface runoff, and are effective for growing crops that require a
lot of water, including rice.
Enjoy seeing the breathtaking photos of the
newly listed rice terraces but be reminded that the work in such terraces
certainly looks breathtaking.
